Asthmatic Sea Otter Inhaler Use (Media Critique)

"Asthmatic Sea Otter Learns to Use Inhaler"
Alison Morrow - KING-TV
Alison Morrow did not do a very good job with this story. Not only was it written poorly but in no way whatsoever is this story newsworthy. Based on rules of journalism, a journalists job is to make the important interesting and not the interesting important. This writer attempted to make the story that seemed interesting, important. An important piece of news would be something such as a new world leader being elected or a war started with another country. A sea otter learning to use an inhaler seems interesting and we feel almost sympathetic for this otter, but it is used as a filler. By a filler  this means, it is used as a news story for other pieces of news that currently aren't there. Alison can describe a good story, but really focused on making a story important and by gathering information which wasn't relevant to people in general or affecting them in any way. Information such as people discussing different things about this otter were gathered but didn't change any ones life. Therefore this story was not newsworthy. The interesting made an attempt to become important.

Effect on Magazines

Photo Journalism is a huge step for magazines and journalism in general. It helps for those that are literate, alliterate, and illiterate to gather information at a fast pace. Photos have an instant effect on the average being. Even if one does not know how to read or write they can still get a lasting effect or emotion from a photo. This lecture on magazines contained information on how photo journalism was an innovation of a magazine. The average magazine contains many pieces of writing and also includes photos which have formed to become a part of a magazine. This was very important and interesting.

Media Critiques in General

I found the lecture on media critiques to be very informational and important. Always in cases of media critiques a journalist themselves will be held responsible for things written and NO ONE ELSE. I found it very informational down to the fact that it is based off of one topic, and when a journalist is making a media critique they can never write in first person. Not only was this good to know in general, but it is also good for when we make our own media critiques.

Penny Press

The penny press has changed the way people write new newspapers and create pieces of journalism. It was an innovation for those that could not afford to legitimately produce newspapers for people. The newspaper was actually one single penny to produce. I found this a very interesting topic because it was so affordable and easy to get a hold of.

Gutenburg Era

I believe that the subject of Gutenburg is very interesting. The reason as to why it is such an intriguing topic is because it changed the world and what we do as people overtime.  The time of the printing press has  made writing and reading much easier for people. If we did not have this advance in technology we wouldn't be able to read nor write. A metal printing press has made books possible and has caused many to be literate and achieve the satisfaction of a decent job.
