WHAS - Senior's tour bridge in golf carts

As of now, what has been found is that typically, the only decent news that a local news station can provide is sports, weather or maybe, just maybe a rare politics, government or even social issues. Day after day, it is just crime after crime after crime or things that aren't relevant to any person. Once again, a story that has no relevance to people, the community, the country, the world, nothing.

The story that was mentioned was an elderly group of people getting the opportunity to walk across the bridge. That is touching and very nice of people to help them be able to experience what we see every day, but it isn't newsworthy. The news reporters have to make money too, it is understandable, but don't make the interesting important.

Radios

Personally, the radio has faded away from the average American's daily use. But I do personally enjoy them. When I am in the car or on the move, I like to pay attention to the news or sports scores. The invention of the television truly demassified radios overall. The thing that a radio provides that other technology today does not provide is basically nothing, that's the exact reason as to why the radio has demassified, only because of other technology. As time goes on people will continue to be more innovative and create more technology which will put T.V. and newspapers, magazines, books etc. out of date. But for now the radio is used a decent amount but definitely not as much as it was.

Comment on Matthew's Post

This was a very interesting point of view on how WDRB represents the news in general. It is agreed from both of our points of view that WDRB somewhat "wastes their time" on certain news stories. But in a way I would have to disagree with this post. I understand that you believe teens getting into drugs doesn't seem newsworthy, but in reality it is. If a teenager moves away from education and into drugs, alcohol, etc. that amounts to pulling away workers from our future work force. What would our world be like if we didn't have any really hard workers and they all turned out to be on drugs? I'll just answer that for you, our economy and businesses wouldn't be able to get by. The U.S. is already struggling to support people with jobs but children getting on drugs makes it even worse. Overall, I would have to disagree with the fact that you think the story is not newsworthy. In spite of my disagreement, I do believe that there were some very good points in this critique.

Courier Journal - Wireless Installation Upsets Highlands Residents

Story after story after story on the news these days DOES NOT AFFECT PEOPLE AT ALL. This story is not relevant to anyone but the people that had the installation. To be quite frank, they are just freaking out over absolutely nothing. Unless it affects your everyday life and is affecting those around you, it does not matter to other people and shouldn't be on the news.

These people are just finding something to ramble on about. The fact that the Courier Journal is talking about a wireless installation just shows, clearly, that they have nothing else to talk about. If anything, wireless connection just makes your daily life better. Everyday we are influenced by technology. So if the people working for the Courier Journal find something to post about, like the current issues happening in the world right now, more people would be interested in reading and or purchasing subscriptions to the website and newspapers. But for now, with these stories, Courier Journal is doing a poor job.

Based on the seven yardsticks of journalism, according to yardstick number three, Local Relevance, the story was only about a few people. This Local Relevance yardstick should be for those stories that affect everyone around them within a local vicinity. Once again and this is the last time it will be said., this story is NOT relevant in anyway to anyone but the people that had the wireless installation.

WDRB - Volquez loses father before World Series start

This is a very heartbreaking story for those that are baseball fans, Kansas City Royals fans, or even just fans of loving people and life. But, this story is not worthy of a news post. It could potentially be local news in Kansas City, but  this story isn't worthy of a post, maybe not even on any news station. Volquez is a professional baseball player which is fantastic and is a great thing to aspire to do, but he is just like the rest of us ordinary people.

If someone in a person living in Smalltown, U.S.A. dies we would not hear about it. Yes, yes, it is understandable that this could be potentially newsworthy because he is playing in the World Series, but once again, he is just a normal person. Volquez should be treated like everyone else. This is very sad news but once again WDRB, not newsworthy.

WDRB - Doc's Cantina

The WDRB news team clearly has no better stories. They are using this sad excuse for a story to fill space and time on the website and television. Opening up a new cantina DOES NOT affect the average persons daily life. They are just trying to make the interesting important and once again not the important interesting. There are wars, political debates, social issues, people escaping to reach asylum all around the world, yet WDRB decided to talk about Doc's Cantina having a delayed opening.

Hello!!!! WDRB news, there are things going on in the world. You should attempt to make the important interesting. You should not try to make the interesting important. Sure, it's great that people are opening a new business, but, it only affects a few people for a short amount of time. What is actually important, affects people for a period of time, and not just a set group. It will affect many, many, many people. A local restaurant opening doesn't affect a large amount and only is valid to be new for a few weeks. This story was not following the Ten Elements of Journalism which should've been used on a better story.

Asthmatic Sea Otter Inhaler Use (Media Critique)

"Asthmatic Sea Otter Learns to Use Inhaler"
Alison Morrow - KING-TV
Alison Morrow did not do a very good job with this story. Not only was it written poorly but in no way whatsoever is this story newsworthy. Based on rules of journalism, a journalists job is to make the important interesting and not the interesting important. This writer attempted to make the story that seemed interesting, important. An important piece of news would be something such as a new world leader being elected or a war started with another country. A sea otter learning to use an inhaler seems interesting and we feel almost sympathetic for this otter, but it is used as a filler. By a filler  this means, it is used as a news story for other pieces of news that currently aren't there. Alison can describe a good story, but really focused on making a story important and by gathering information which wasn't relevant to people in general or affecting them in any way. Information such as people discussing different things about this otter were gathered but didn't change any ones life. Therefore this story was not newsworthy. The interesting made an attempt to become important.
